Did Iron Man in Avengers Pull a Bubblegum Crisis Stunt?

If you’re an Otaku, you may have realized that in one of the scenes, Iron Man in Avengers pulled the same move that Priss did in Bubblegum Crisis (BGC).  Although the scene wasn’t as dramatic in the 80’s anime series, I remember it well enough.

* Spoiler warning provided in article *

American science fiction cinema has had a major influence in Japanese Anime, and vice versa. This is just one example of many.

For those who don’t know, Bubblegum Crisis (1987-1991) was based on the film Blade Runner (1982).  The series is a cult classic, but only the original GBC series is good.  However, it’s a bit dated.  Being an Anime geek, I prefer to watch the original Japanese version, because the voice acting and original soundtrack is so much better than the dubbed version.  The dubbed voiceover and translation, as with many older Anime, are not very good.  This is especially true of BGC, as the main character is a rock star, who’s music were performed by a Japanese pop star who can really sing.  Imagine 80’s pop translated to a different language and then sung by someone who has just an ok voice.

If you are remotely interested, I would recommend watching episode 5, “Moonlight Rambling,” and episode 6, “Red Eyes,” first.  The reason for this is that the rest are not as well written and you may lose interest before you get to the good part.  These two episodes also form a complete story.  The subsequent BGC series are not worth watching IMHO.  The original BGC series is on Hulu.  But be warned, these are dubbed, including the music.

For those who are really interested in my reference to Iron Man scene in Avengers…

…it’s a very short 5 second scene in the Bubblegum Crisis episode 6, “Red Eye,” where Priss leaps off a building spread eagle.  Then out of nowhere, her motoslave swoops down to hover over her as they both fall.  The motoslave then envelops her, encasing her in the exoskeleton.
