I googled “Gay Asian Politics” and the search resulted came back with more porn sites than non-porn related results. I was surprised. How could that be? So I searched “Gay Black Politics” and found that although some dating results did return, the top search results had no porn sites. I investigated a bit further.
You can read into why I chose to compare search results of Blacks to Asians however you wish, but that was my initial reaction when I saw the Asian porn sites resulting from my search. There must be some psychological reason for it, but we can explore my psychological issues another time. For now let’s focus on the results.
I did a quick search on the top three search engines to test out. According to Hitwise.com, the top three search engines of the past month are:
Of the top 5 results from Yahoo, no porn sites showed up for either searches. Of the top 5 results from Bing, one porn site came up for”gay asian politics” and no porn sites for “gay black politics”. This is with the default child-safety-off setting on each of these sites.
Of the top 5 results, number of porn sites for “gay asian politics” vs. “gay black politics”.
Searching on “gay asian geek” and “gay black geek” resulted in a different porn to non-porn ratio. You can try it yourself, but here are the counts I got today, May 28, 2010.
Of the top 5 results, number of porn sites for “gay asian geek” vs. “gay black geek”.
Understand that this is just one moment of time in internet history. The internet is constantly changing so results may vary. Also search engine algorithms are different from one vendor to another, and they are also constantly changing. But I encourage you to try it for yourself.
Maybe there is a glitch in the Google algorithm for “gay asian politics” or porn sites are smart enough to outwit its algorithm. The Bing tv commercials tells us it’s smarter, but it still came up with one porn site in its top five results on “gay asian politics”. Bing also returned the most number of porn sites for “gay asian geek” and “gay black geek”.
In any case, I feel that there is a lack of serious gay Asians discussions on the web. This site is here to change that.
